FAQs

What does Zero Carbon mean?
Zero carbon refers to reducing our overall greenhouse pollution to zero net. This will include reducing electricity and gas usage, increasing sustainable transport, avoiding waste, and replacing our electricity sources with accredited Green Power.

What is a Carbon Footprint?
A ‘Carbon footprint’ is a shorthand term to describe the amount of greenhouse gas emissions for which an organisation, household or individual is responsible. It includes emissions from gas and electricity consumption, transport and waste.

Will it take time or money?
Taking part in Zero Carbon Moreland is free and you’ll save money on your gas and electricity bills too. Your level of involvement is entirely up to you. At a minimum all we ask is that you sign up and tell us what you’ve done and what you plan to do.

I am a renter. Can I still be involved?
Yes, renters can participate in all our activities. And if you have a concession card you could be eligible for a free home retrofit as well. Many actions won’t require any contact with your real estate agent or landlord and are free or low cost to you and your household. Several rebates are currently available for landlords as well - visit our website for more information.

I’ve already done everything I can–why should I be involved?
Many individuals and groups in Moreland have already taken significant actions to reduce their carbon footprint. We rely on these people to help show the rest of Moreland what’s possible. If you have taken lots of actions to reduce your footprint already, we’d love to involve you in other ways: become a Zero Carbon Moreland Community Leader, volunteer your time or expertise, tell us your actions, and help us build our library of inspiring local stories.
